Sapphire, The September's Birthstone

Although sapphires come in a number of colors, this prized gemstone is associated most closely with its deep heavenly blue, a color suggested by the phrase "sapphire seas." September's birthstone has been used by priests throughout the ages as a symbol of purity, and by kings as an emblem of wisdom.
